Yes. The UK, USA and Ireland accept Duolingo English Test for visa purposes. If you’re taking the Duolingo English test to move abroad for studies, you must ensure you meet university requirements. If the university you’re applying to has accepted your DET scores, there usually isn’t any problem with visas.
The difficulty level of the Duolingo English Test and IELTS depends on your learning style and strengths. The Duolingo English Test offers an adaptive format focusing on practical language skills. IELTS is a comprehensive exam assessing reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. IELTS is generally a more detailed exam, and students find it a bit more challenging than DET.
Generally, a good DET score is over 110. However, whether your DET score is a good score or not depends on your university's requirements. If you apply for an advanced course, your score requirements are higher. We recommend aiming above 120 for the best chance of getting into universities.
Most US universities require a score between 115-120. More reputed universities require a higher score. The score requirement also depends on the course you take. If you take professionally advanced courses such as Psychology, Medicine or Business Management, you will need a higher DET score as it requires you to use English more comprehensively.
